While coats are still mandatory across much of Europe and the mainland, the change of season feels very different here in the Canary Islands. Visiting Tenerife in March is, for many expert travellers, the smartest decision of the year.
Why? Because March offers the perfect balance: longer days, temperatures inviting enough for a swim, and a tranquillity that disappears during peak season. At San Sofé Stay, we want to tell you what awaits you on the island this month and why our accommodation is the ideal starting point for your adventure.
Weather in Tenerife in March: Beach or Mountain? Both!
It is the million-dollar question: “Is it beach weather in March?”. The answer is a resounding yes. Average temperatures range between 20ºC and 24ºC, allowing you to enjoy the sun without the stifling heat of summer.
- In the South: The sun shines brightly, perfect for lying on the beaches of El Médano or Costa Adeje.
- In the North: The climate is mild and perfect for exploring cities like Puerto de la Cruz or La Orotava without breaking a sweat.
Nature's Explosion: Teide and Anaga
March is the green month. Winter rains give way to spectacular scenery. If you love hiking, this is your moment.
- Anaga Rural Park: In March, the laurel forest is more mystical and lush than ever. Walking its trails is like stepping into a fairy tale.
- Mount Teide: You might still see some snow on the peak (Teide’s famous “hat”) while you are in short sleeves at its base. The colour contrast—black lava, green broom, and blue sky—is incredible for photography.
Tenerife Agenda March 2026: Confirmed Events
This year, March is packed with plans. We have compiled the key dates so you don’t miss a thing during your stay with us:
Music & Festivals
- Premios Dial (March 12): The great Spanish music party is held at the Santa Cruz Fairgrounds. A unique opportunity to see top artists on the green carpet.
- Fito & Fitipaldis (March 14): The legendary rock band arrives at the Tenerife Fairgrounds. A great plan to enjoy live music.
- Valeria Castro (March 21): The most touching voice of the islands will perform at the Santiago Martín Pavilion (La Laguna).
- Laura Pausini (March 29): The Italian superstar closes the month with her “World Tour” at the Antonio Domínguez Stadium (Arona), coinciding with the start of Holy Week.
Sports & Gastronomy
- Tenerife Bluetrail (March 19-21): One of the most important mountain races in Europe. The atmosphere on the island is pure sporting energy.
- Burger Fest Canarias (March 27-29): “The Grand VIP Final” will take place at the Fairgrounds. A mandatory stop for gourmet burger lovers.
Important Note: This year, Easter Week (Semana Santa) begins on March 29th (Palm Sunday). This means you can enjoy low-season prices for almost the entire month before the tourist influx of Easter arrives in the final days.
Gastronomy without Queues: The "Guachinche" Route
One of the great advantages of visiting Tenerife in March is the lack of crowds. This is especially noticeable in the famous “Guachinches” (traditional establishments serving homemade food and local wine in the north of the island).
You can try escaldón, carne fiesta, and harvest wine without waiting hours for a table. Ask us when you check in, and we will recommend our favourites!

Frequently Asked Questions about Travelling to Tenerife in March
What clothes should I pack for Tenerife in March?
The key is “layering”. March is a transition month. We recommend bringing swimwear and summer clothes for the middle of the day (especially if you are in the south), but a light jacket or sweatshirt is essential for the evenings and for visiting high areas like La Laguna or Teide National Park.
Can you swim in the beach in March?
Yes, absolutely! Although the Atlantic water is always fresh (around 19ºC-20ºC), the outside temperature invites you to swim. The southern areas (Costa Adeje, Las Américas, El Médano) usually have more hours of direct sunshine.
Is March an expensive month to visit the island?
It is one of the best months for value for money. Since Easter falls at the end of the month (March 29th to April 5th, 2026), the first three weeks of March are considered mid-low season. It is the ideal time to find better rates on flights and accommodation.
Do I need to rent a car?
Although Tenerife has public transport (buses, known locally as guaguas), at San Sofé Stay we always recommend renting a car. It is the only way to discover secret spots, reach less touristy beaches, and drive up Mount Teide at your own pace.
What time does it get dark in Tenerife in March?
In March, the days start to get noticeably longer. You will enjoy sunlight until approximately 19:00 or 19:30 hours. Perfect for making the most of the day!
