The El Montillo Natural Park is located in the north of Tenerife island, in the municipality of La Matanza de Acentejo. The El Montillo Park is a beautiful natural reserve that began construction in 2009. After ten years of work, it was inaugurated in 2019, despite some administrative hurdles. The delay was caused by controversy over a possible impact on an endangered species: the beetle Pimelia radula radula. Today, the park is an example of a sustainable space that maintains a balance between conservation, respect for the natural environment, and responsible use of the surroundings.
In its first phase, the park covered 30,000 m², becoming the largest green area in La Matanza de Acentejo. Today, it extends over more than 57,000 m². Additionally, the El Montillo natural reserve includes 410 plants and a multitude of fruit trees, Canary pines, palm trees, and other endemic species. The park’s main focus is on children. In fact, it has many play areas for the little ones. However, adults and seniors can also enjoy this natural recreational space. The park is open every day from 8:00 AM to 8:30 PM. Additionally, on Fridays and Saturdays, its opening hours are extended until 9:00 PM.
What to see in the Natural Park El Montillo de La Matanza
The first thing you encounter upon entering the El Montillo Natural Park, besides its spectacular vegetation, is a map provided by the La Matanza de Acentejo Town Hall. It shows the route you can take and your current position at any given moment. Let’s take a look at the points of interest you can find in the natural reserve:

The green space also features multiple picnic areas, benches, and picnic tables where you can stop to eat and rest. Additionally, you will find numerous bridges and streams perfect for taking your best photos. Lastly, it is an inclusive space. The park has many ramps adapted both for people with disabilities and for pushing baby strollers.
How to get to the El Montillo Natural Park in Tenerife
La Matanza de Acentejo is just 26 km by road from Santa Cruz de Tenerife. Additionally, you can choose to take the bus using lines 101, 102, or 30.
Once in the municipality, the park is located on Carretera de San Antonio street. It is practically in the center of La Matanza de Acentejo, so getting there is relatively easy. If you use the town hall as a reference point, take Real street and La Resbala street towards Carretera de San Antonio street.
If you go by car, the park has free parking. There are even spaces for electric vehicles. The parking is not very large, but if you visit during the week, you will have no problem finding a spot. If you decide to visit on weekends when the crowd is larger, you can still find some parking near the road.
